Almost immediately, if you like! If you are accepted for coverage, your insurance can start the day after you apply for the coverage over the phone. If you want to receive proof of your new coverage sooner rather than later, you can get temporary insurance cards by fax or email, subject to state availability. Your permanent cards will be mailed to you.

Auto and home insurance through BenefitsPlus may not be the best for everyone. Therefore it is not a guaranteed coverage and you may not qualify based on state regulations, driving record, types of coverage you need, and applicable underwriting guidelines.

Getting a free, no-obligation quote is easy. You can:

  • Complete the online quote process (Refer to the "Get Your Quotes Now" link on the auto and home insurance page). You will need to answer a series of questions regarding your insurance requirements and driving history. In some more complicated cases, you may be instructed to contact the service center to speak with an insurance counselor.
Call the phone number listed in the Contacts section of this website to speak to your insurance company. Always call as soon as possible, regardless of who is at fault. Even if the accident appears minor, it is important that you let your insurance company know about the incident.
When you leave or retire from your current employer, you can continue your auto and home coverage without interruption, subject to applicable law and the policies' terms and conditions. Although payroll deduction will no longer be available if you retire or leave your company, you can opt for other payment methods such as direct checking or bank account deduction, credit card billing or home billing.

In most cases your auto and home insurance can start the day after you apply for coverage over the phone. It can also begin at a later date designated by you. It’s up to you. Just speak with the insurance counselor to decide when you want your coverage to begin.

If you want your new coverage or a change in coverage to take place sooner rather than later, we can fax or email you temporary insurance cards, subject to state availability. Your permanent cards will be mailed directly to you.

You can cancel your coverage at any time by contacting Mercer at 855-290-5661 or your Carrier (MetLife, Travelers, Liberty Mutual) directly. The cancellation would become effective as of the date of the request. If payroll deducted, your first or second paycheck after the cancellation is processed would reflect the change and a refund should be issued by your plan Carrier within 30 days of the date a cancellation is processed, if applicable.

Payments are made via Baystate Health payroll deduction. Payroll deduction is not available to employees who work less than 16 hours or are in a per diem employment status, however, payment can be made directly with the benefit carrier.

Yes. If you are a current Metlife Auto & Home®, Travelers, or Liberty Mutual policyholder when you explore options through the BenefitsPlus program, you will remain eligible for discounts you currently receive.

Before you begin the process to get quotes and enroll in auto insurance, you will need to reference data that is captured on a few of your personal documents. For the car and person you are seeking insurance on, you will need; the vehicle registration, driver’s license, and the proof of insurance card if insurance information is not included on your vehicle registration.

Your new coverage is issued directly in the Liberty Mutual, MetLife, or Travelers enrollment system. As such, you can contact them or visit their website using the coverage information provided on the BenefitsPlus website or by calling your Mercer agent (1-855-290-5661) to access policy documentation immediately. Coverage is effective the date a quote is accepted and a policy is bound unless it is future dated at your request. Hard copy policy documentation will also be mailed to the address you provided to your Carrier within one week of issuance, unless otherwise specified.

If your current auto or home insurance policy is NOT one of the carriers that Mercer is the broker for, Liberty Mutual, MetLife or Travelers, it is your responsibility to contact your current insurance provider and notify them of the change. To avoid being overcharged, it is important that you determine if there are any timing requirements or considerations in terminating your automatic payments with your current carrier.

If you selected payroll deduction as your premium payment method it can take around 2-4 weeks for you to begin seeing premiums deducted from your paycheck, which would be around the time of your policy effective date. If you selected direct bill it should take approximately the same amount of time to receive your first premium notice.
