How It Works

FAQs

Answers about the plan, including eligibility, options, enrollment, customer service and more.
  • How can this help me?

It's a free service provided to you. You will receive quotes and exclusive discounts to potentially save money on home insurance.

Compare your current insurance coverage with offers from top-rated insurance companies. If you like what you hear you have the option to make the change and put your new coverage into effect on the same call—no extra steps, no hassles, and next-day coverage.

  • Who is eligible?

You and your family members are eligible to obtain FREE quotes.

  • When can I enroll?

Call the number listed in the “Contact Us” section of this website during the designated hours. That will connect you directly to a U.S. based licensed representative.

  • Can I be turned down?

Home insurance through BenefitsPlus may not be the best for everyone. Therefore, it is not a guaranteed coverage and you may not qualify based on state regulations, types of coverage you need, and applicable underwriting guidelines.
  • How much will this coverage cost?

The cost of home insurance varies by insurance company and specifics about the home, such as the year it was built and the type of home to be insured. A licensed insurance counselor can provide you with an accurate quote based on your situation and apply any discounts you’re eligible for.

For quotes, make a phone call to speak with a trained insurance counselor, licensed and based in the U.S. If the quote you get is better than what you’re paying now, you can switch right over the phone.
  • What if my employment status changes?

When you leave or retire from your employer, you can continue your home coverage without interruption, subject to applicable law and the policies' terms and conditions. Although payroll deduction will no longer be available, you can opt for other payment methods such as direct bank account deduction, credit card billing or home billing.
  • When would my new policy begin?

Almost immediately, if you would like! If you are accepted for coverage, your insurance can start the day after you apply for the coverage over the phone.

  • How do I change my policy?

Changing your policy is as easy as a phone call to one of our licensed insurance counselors. Call the phone number listed in the “Contact Us” section of this website.

  • How do I get a quote?

Getting a free, no-obligation quote is easy. You can:

    • Call our service center to work with an insurance counselor over the phone. You will need to answer a series of questions regarding your insurance requirements. The representative site will guide you through the process with helpful tips and easy to understand explanations. Based on the information you provide, you can receive an immediate quote.
  • When/how can I cancel my coverage and when would it take effect?

You can cancel your coverage at any time by contacting Mercer at 855-290-5661 or your Carrier (MetLife, Travelers, Liberty Mutual) directly. The cancellation would become effective as of the date of the request. If payroll deducted, your first or second paycheck after the cancellation is processed would reflect the change and a refund should be issued by your plan Carrier within 30 days of the date a cancellation is processed, if applicable.
  • Why should I buy my home insurance here?

Home insurance through BenefitsPlus is provided exclusively to Baystate Health employees. For this reason, there are several advantages to purchasing auto and home insurance through BenefitsPlus:

    • Special employee discounts2 can save you money.
    • Convenient payroll deduction option of your premiums.

Overall, this benefit provides high-quality insurance at competitive rates to most people. Because home insurance is based on several factors including the state you live in, who's insured and many other factors, this insurance may not give you the lowest rate, but don't you owe it to yourself and your hard-earned money to find out?

  • How do I pay for this benefit?

Payments are made via Baystate Health payroll deduction. Payroll deduction is not available to employees who work less than 16 hours or are in a per diem employment status, however, payment can be made directly with the benefit carrier.
  • If I am a current MetLife Auto & Home®, Travelers, or Liberty Mutual policyholder and I decide to update my policy under the BenefitsPlus program, will my current discounts remain in effect?

Yes. If you are a current Metlife Auto & Home®, Travelers, or Liberty Mutual policyholder when you explore options through the BenefitsPlus program, you will remain eligible for discounts you currently receive.
  • What documents do I need before I enroll in home insurance?

Before you begin the process to get quotes and enroll in home insurance, you will need to reference data that is captured on a few of your personal documents. For the home you are seeking insurance on, you will need your current policy.
  • After I enroll in auto insurance, what happens next?

Your new coverage is issued directly in the Liberty Mutual, MetLife, or Travelers enrollment system. As such, you can contact them or visit their website using the coverage information provided on the BenefitsPlus website or by calling your Mercer agent (1-855-290-5661) to access policy documentation immediately. Coverage is effective the date a quote is accepted and a policy is bound unless it is future dated at your request. Hard copy policy documentation will also be mailed to the address you provided to your Carrier within one week of issuance, unless otherwise specified.

If your current home insurance policy is NOT one of the carriers that Mercer is the broker for, Liberty Mutual, MetLife or Travelers, it is your responsibility to contact your current insurance provider and notify them of the change. To avoid being overcharged, it is important that you determine if there are any timing requirements or considerations in terminating your automatic payments with your current carrier.

If you selected payroll deduction as your premium payment method it can take around 2-4 weeks for you to begin seeing premiums deducted from your paycheck, which would be around the time of your policy effective date. If you selected direct bill it should take approximately the same amount of time to receive your first premium notice.
  • What do I do if I have a claim?

Call the number listed in the “Contact Us” section of this website and you will be routed to your insurance company. Always call as soon as possible, regardless of the situation.

1Home insurance is not available in FL through the carriers offered in this program and may not be part of MetLife Auto & Home’s benefit offering in MA.
2Discounts are not available from all carriers and only available to those who qualify. Coverages, discounts and billing options are subject to state availability, individual qualification and/or the insuring company's underwriting guidelines.
